Fall is the ideal time of year to treat trees with trunk injections and protect against destructive tree pests like Emerald Ash Borer, Japanese Beetle, Oak Wilt, nutrient deficiencies and fungal diseases that have been devastating trees across the country.
EAB on a rampage! In fact, from August to October is when Emerald Ash Borer larvae are at their most voracious and active, and cause the most damage to ash trees. Over 60 million trees have been destroyed by these pests, and they show no sign of stopping. Since its discovery in 2002, Emerald Ash Borer has been found in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Ontario and Quebec, and for the first time this summer, in Connecticut.
Other pests are also wreaking havoc. Spiraling Whitefly is causing visible damage to trees and property—especially car paint and outdoor furniture—throughout Southern Florida due to the sticky honeydew it produces. Unsightly black sooty mold later grows on the honeydew, causing further annoyance to homeowners. Nutrient deficiencies, chlorosis and fungal diseases like Oak Wilt are also best treated before trees go dormant.
How tree trunk injections can help. With tree trunk injections, the treatment is injected directly into a tree’s vascular system. This limits the environmental exposure. Plus, the tree can be protected within days after treatment.
Nothing is released into the air or soil during treatment when tree trunk injections are used. Some active ingredients keep working through the tree’s vascular system into the next season, providing continuous protection. There is even one injectable product available that protects trees against insects for up to two years and can stop damage even if a tree is currently under attack.
