PRODUCT REVIEW: Snapper Pro SW30 Series Walk-Behind Mowers

New York state contractor needs a mower that can really mulch, and may have found it.

Michael Bellantoni Jr. of Michael Bellantoni Inc. in White Plains, NY, started using Snapper Pro’s SW30 hydro walk-behind mower this season. “So far so good,” Bellantoni says. “Of course, all new machines seem to work pretty well. But my crews really like them. They’re comfortable to handle. They also have a few safety gadgets on them for raising the deck, applying the brakes and engaging the mower blades.”

The SW30s are also providing a nice cut. “We mulch 100%,” Bellantoni points out. “So the mulching aspect of any mower is very important to us. We have the mulching kits on the SW30s all the time. We demoed them in the fall, actually, so we were able to mulch leaves. Now we’re mulching that rapidly growing spring grass. The SW30 has been a good mulching mower.”

Starting at $4,899, Snapper Pro says its SW30 is sure to handle the rigors of professional use. Bellantoni is finding that out. His crews frequently use intermediate walk-behinds, especially for residential properties and parking lot islands. “Our properties vary in size quite a bit,” Bellantoni explains. “So we’re limited as to what we can put on some of our trailers. The 48-inch SW30 has been a good, versatile mower for us.” Bellantoni purchased seven 48-inch models for this season. He’ll have to replace another seven intermediate walk mowers in the next year or two, and will be considering more SW30s.

The only service issue to arise thus far was a faulty throttle cable on one of the seven mowers Bellantoni has put into action.

Bellantoni is both a landscape industry certified technician and manager, and is the current president of the New York State Turf & Landscape Association. Being a New Yorker, he says it’s also important to him that Snapper Pro mowers are built in Briggs & Stratton’s Munnsville factory in upstate New York. “I’m supporting not only the U.S. economy, but also my local economy.” Bellantoni actually purchased the mowers through Snapper Pro dealer Pomona Power Equipment in nearby Spring Valley, NY.

Michael Bellatoni Inc. provides several landscaping services: landscape design, grounds maintenance, masonry, irrigation, drainage, plant health care, landscape lighting, water features and hardscaping.
