2015 Commercial Walk-Behind Mower Preview

A look at what's new from leading makers of commercial walk-behind mowers.

They're not nearly as popular as their sit-down zero-turning counterparts, but walk-behind mowers still have a spot on many a lawn maintenance contractor's trailer. That's why several leading mower makers have upgraded their walk-behind lineups for 2015. In fact, a well-known brand is even coming out with its first-ever walk mower this year.

Dixie Chopper, the Indiana-based zero-turn mower manufacturer acquired by Jacobsen Textron a little over one year ago, is introducing its Pursuit walk mower, the company's first play in the walk-behind category. The Pursuit, powered by a Briggs & Stratton engine, is offered with either a 32-, 36- or 44-inch deck.

Husqvarna is breaking from a couple-year hiatus and getting back into the commercial mid-size walk mower category this season. The company is offering two new models, a 36-inch and 48-inch.

One zero-turn maker that's no novice when it comes to walk mowers is Exmark. The company has redesigned its popular Turf Tracer X-Series for 2015. The new version includes a more efficient deck drive system, among several other improvements.

Gravely is rounding out its offering of propane-powered mowers with a 48-inch walk model. The Pro-Walk Hydro LP 48 also features a wider wheelbase for enhanced hillside stability.

Ferris and Snapper Pro, Briggs & Stratton Power Products Group brands, are offering two new intermediate walk mowers this year. The Ferris FW35CC and Snapper Pro SW35CC feature newly designed, more ergonomic handlebar controls for easier operation and less fatigue.
