R&S Landscaping, a leading environmentally responsible landscaping firm based in Midland Park, NJ, has announced the winner of its first annual "Earth Day ... Every Day" poster contest: Gregory Lawson, a first-grade student at Willard Elementary School in Ridgewood, NJ.

As the first-place winner, Lawson and his class are being treated to a pizza party on Friday, June 17. Additionally, Lawson’s original artwork will be displayed on R&S Landscaping's website, www.rscape.com, and at the local library branch.

The contest was launched to encourage students to be more aware of what they can do to help the environment on a daily basis as well as inspire their creativity. Open to Bergen County students in first through eighth grades, the themes were Water Conservation or Plants and Planting.

"We were very impressed with so many of the entries that it was hard to pick just one winner, but the enthusiasm Gregory expressed in his bold and colorful poster really stood out," said Robert Schucker, president of R&S Landscaping. "We are pleased to be part of an encouraging event that helped students learn about environmental practices in a creative manner, and hope they will put some of what they learned to good use at home."
