For 2014, Exmark has expanded the availability of its exclusive RED technology to Lazer Z X-Series models with 52-inch UltraCut Series 6 cutting decks. This allows landscape professionals to run Exmark's most fuel-efficient, powerful engine package with a wider variety of deck options.
Electronic governor is the key. RED technology enhances the efficiency of the Kohler EFI powerplant while delivering improved responsiveness and performance in a wide variety of cutting conditions. An electronic governor (E-gov) is a key to the system, as it offers a significant reduction in governor droop when compared to typical mechanical governors. The E-governor enables RED-equipped models to operate in a lower RPM range without sacrifice to blade tip speed or cut quality. This significantly enhances fuel economy—up to 40% compared to carbureted models, Exmark says—with improved responsiveness and performance.
Three performance modes. A RED-equipped Lazer Z X-Series mower offers three user-selectable performance modes, giving the operator the ability to choose the most appropriate mix of performance and efficiency for the task at hand. RED gives landscape professionals the ability to achieve maximum efficiency when conditions allow, and instantly maximize power when conditions require using the three-position rocker switch.
Clutch-saver feature. RED technology intelligently manages the engine and powertrain to deliver increased durability in the most demanding commercial applications. An exclusive clutch-saver feature extends clutch life by slowing engine RPM to a safe level during clutch engagement and disengagement. RED also monitors vital engine parameters, including engine temperature and oil pressure, to prevent engine damage in use. The system can place the machine in a "safe transport" mode when critical thresholds have been exceeded to allow safe return for service.
In addition to the new 52-inch width, the RED-equipped Lazer Z X-Series is also available with a 60- or 72-inch UltraCut Series 6 cutting deck. All UltraCut Series 6 decks feature fabricated and welded high-strength alloy steel construction with Exmark’s patented flow-control baffles, no-maintenance sealed spindles and a 5.5-inch deck depth.
