Texas Community Imposes Turfgrass Restrictions

In Georgetown, TX, roughly 30 miles from Austin, city officials are hoping to lower the city's per capita water use by enacting new landscape and irrigation requirements for future residential construction.

The requirements include limits on how much of a lawn can be landscaped with turfgrass and watered with spray irrigation systems.

The code limits the irrigation area to 2.5 times the structure’s foundation or a maximum of 10,000 square feet to reduce the amount of turf to be irrigated.

These limits are only applicable to new home construction or the installation of a new irrigation system.
