Law Enforcement Warns of Landscaping Scam

Police in Fort Myers, FL, warn residents of two-man landscaping scam; thieves looking to ransack homes while explaining landscape maintenance needs.

Back in mid-July, police in Fort Myers, FL, issued a warning to residents. A couple of guys posing as landscape contractors were tricking people out of their homes, and then ransacking the homes while the homeowners were outside.

According to the report, one of the scammers would knock on a person’s front door. The scammer said he was a landscaper performing work at a home down the street. The scammer then said there were some landscaping issues on the homeowner’s property and would like to discuss fixing them for a very reasonable price since he was already working in the area. While the homeowner was outside talking with the landscape scammer, the scammer’s accomplice ducked into the home to steal money, jewelry and other items.

The primary scammer is said to be a light-skinned Hispanic male in his early to mid-40s, approaching 6 feet tall with a medium build, brown hair and brown eyes. He was seen driving a white mini-van.

THE LESSON: Never trust a landscape contractor who drives a white mini-van.
