Orange County Contractors Make Donation to Habitat for Humanity

Donation a great indicator that the Green Industry’s small to medium-sized contractors have bounced back from the slow economy.

The Orange County chapter of the California Landscape Contractors Association (OC CLCA) recently donated funds they raised from their 2014 annual golf tournament to Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.

The OC CLCA gave a monetary donation to Habitat for Humanity of Orange County representative Brad Morton, a key longtime board member for the non-profit, at their recent holiday party. This is the first time in 10 years that the OC CLCA has made a donation to an outside charity — a great indicator that the Green Industry’s small to medium-sized contractors have bounced back from the slow economy.

In addition to the monetary donation, the OC CLCA has informed vendors and industry suppliers of its partnership with Habitat for Humanity and has asked them to donate or offer discounts to Habitat for Humanity for any of their future projects. The OC CLCA plans to continue to help other non-profits in 2015.

“Habitat for Humanity of Orange County is delighted to receive Orange County’s CLCA’s donation,” said Brad Morton, board member for Habitat for Humanity of Orange County. “Each home we build needs donations for every element of the home, including exteriors. CLCA Orange County’s donation and work to help with our landscape budget creates a key partnership with the chapter, one of which we are grateful to have”.

At the end of 2013, the OC CLCA had a planning meeting and made a 2014 year-end goal to donate to a charity. Board members brainstormed various worthy organizations and selected Habitat for Humanity of Orange County because homes built with a beautiful landscaped exterior gain more curb appeal and help improve the quality of life — which is one of the CLCA’s core goals. In addition to the monetary donation, the OC CLCA informed its vendors and industry suppliers of its partnership with Habitat for Humanity and has asked them to donate or offer discounts to Habitat for Humanity for any of their future projects. Chapter members were able to get vendors to lend a more listening ear to the needs that Habitat for Humanity has and subsequently make either a donation or discounts available for Habitat for Humanity.

CLCA is an active force in the statewide effort to conserve water. As water-efficient irrigation experts, many members are invaluable sources for consultations on planning and installing water-saving irrigation systems. CLCA also conducts an active public information program on landscape water management. CLCA is a non‑profit, statewide trade association of licensed landscape and landscape‑related specialty contractors. The Orange County chapter is one of the largest chapters in California with approximately 200 members.
