Stolen Equipment Found Through Social Media

Facebook post alerts resident to stolen trailer parked near his house.

Social media is making it just a tad bit harder for landscaping equipment bandits to get away with the goods.

The owners of a landscape company in Guthrie, OK, recently had their trailer and lawnmowers – worth roughly $30,000 – stolen while parked in front of their home. They posted a photo of their rig on Facebook along with a plea for help. Just a few hours later, they got a call. A resident of Oklahoma City, roughly 30 miles away, saw their shared Facebook post and realized he could very well be staring at the stolen trailer and equipment parked near his house. After calling the landscape company owners, he says he called the police, grabbed his pistol, and waited.

The landscape company had their trailer and mowers back, safe and sound, within five mowers of realizing they had been stolen.

What’s amazing is that the equipment thieves scratched the company logo off of the trailer and then spraypainted over it. So there were no overtly discernable markings for a witness to identify. But the vigilant citizen and Facebook user took no chances and alerted authorities. I guess that’s what they call vigilance—and being a good neighbor.
