    All good advice. We had to get rid of two employees at the end of last year. One of those guys had been with us for several years. The other only 1 year. But both had to go for two reasons; 1) I knew I could do better. 2) We didn’t have enough work to keep them on all winter - and a lot of that was because THEY weren’t doing their job of selling more work. In the spring, we replaced one of them and he’s become probably the best employee we’ve ever had. This year, we’re able to have him stay all winter because he was so much better than his predecessor. He brings in so much business for us that we couldn’t afford to fire him or lay him off. The other position didn’t get filled for now.

    So it’s true that now is a time to make your company much more profitable by getting rid of dead weight and hiring better employees.
