Poly Blades from Hutchinson, MN-based May Wes Manufacturing are not designed for continual use on rough services, but can prove to be highly effective in protecting smooth, hard surfaces such as cobblestone and certain pavements.
Sidewalks and small parking lots represent one application where they are especially useful.
“Our staff has to clear snow on four miles of sidewalks, plus numerous smaller parking lots,” says Mike Drew, park superintendent for the City of Glencoe, MN. “We decided to make the switch from metal cutting edges to the May Wes Poly Blade in an effort to prevent scuffing the sidewalks.”
May Wes helped Drew figure out the proper Poly Blade size requirements to fit his particular snow blowers and plow blades.
“Since using the Poly Blades, we like how the poly material flexes when the blade hits uneven sidewalks, preventing the shock on the equipment and chipping the concrete,” Drew relates. “In the past with metal cutting edges, we’d get a hard stop impact and shock to the equipment. Also, we have found that installing the lightweight poly material can be done by one person instead of the two who were needed with metal cutting edges.”
Other key features of the May Wes Poly Blade include:
- For use on ATV- or truck-mounted blades, skid loaders and other bucket-mounted equipment
- Custom drilled to your specifications
- Custom sizes available
- Non-stick UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight) polyethylene surface reduces debris buildup
