Green Industry Pros Creating Free Virtual Peer Groups

Landscape contractors can share best practices with peers from across the country.

Peer groups bring like-minded business owners together so they can share best practices and compare key financial indicators. While not for everybody, peer groups can definitely serve as a valuable resource for many landscape company owners.

But peer groups can be costly to join. They are typically facilitated by some kind of highly paid consultant and require significant travel. For some landscape companies, particularly the larger ones, this investment is well worth it. But for others, especially the smaller and mid-size ones, this investment is out of reach.

Face-to-face meetings and consultant oversight definitely have their merits. But the main benefit of joining a peer group is the opportunity to share war stories and best practices with other contractors who are experiencing the same challenges.

Green Industry Pros is introducing its own Virtual Peer Groups, giving its roughly 55,000 landscape contractor readers an opportunity to participate in benchmarking studies and the creation of best management practices. Specific groups will be created for different topics, such as: residential maintenance, commercial maintenance, design/build, hardscaping and lawn care, to name a few. Groups will also be assembled based on factors including company size, years in business, and geographic location. Online surveys and teleconferences will be the primary communication tools. Live meetings at events such as GIE+EXPO will also be utilized.
