Environmentally Friendly Design

Grasshopper MaxTorque Clean Diesel mowers lower fuel costs and emissions, contributing to a healthier bottom line and a healthier planet at the same time. Fitting an EPA-compliant, Tier 4 Final diesel engine into a zero-turn mower is only half of the equation. Grasshopper has harnessed diesel torque and maximized power delivery with specially designed sub-frame and power-platform technology. These high-torque, low-vibration mowers use less than one gallon per hour, cutting fuel use by 50 percent while delivering 50 percent more torque than similar-sized gasoline and propane mowers, according to the manufacturer. Grasshopper says one of its MaxTorque Clean Diesel mowers can save more than 900 gallons—or $2,500—over 1,000 hours of use. Fueling with tax-exempt off-road diesel can increase cost savings to $2,800. In addition, routine maintenance is minimal, significantly reducing the cost of ownership over time when compared to gasoline and propane models.

MaxTorque Clean Diesel mowers meet federal and municipal low-emissions standards and are an attractive buy for landscape contractors as well as park and recreation departments. Data published by the EPA and California Air Resources Board consistently show hourly “tail pipe emissions” from Clean Diesel engines are significantly lower than gasoline and propane engines.
