When released at sundown (they don't fly at night), ladybugs eat aphids, mealy bugs, scale, leaf hoppers, and other destructive soft bodied pests. Sold as eggs, the lacewings will soon hatch into tiny larvae that are sometimes called "Aphid Lions" because they are known to devour as many as 1,000 aphids per day. They remain as larvae for up to 21 days, crawling around looking for food. In addition to aphids, green lacewings will also eat spider mites, caterpillars, thrips, leaf hoppers, whitefly larvae, a wide variety of moth eggs, and just about any other soft-bodied pest.
