Natural Insight has created WorkTrak, a cloud-based workforce management system that allows mobile workers to clock in and out of jobs from any smartphone or tablet. All time-keeping information is instantly uploaded to the company's payroll system, helping save time and money in administration.

While this tool enables employees to track their own time, the employer can also turn on a GPS tracking feature that verifies time and location every time an employee clocks in or out. Then, if an employee is beyond a pre-determined distance from the worksite, an alert is created. As an added bonus, employees can use the GPS feature to download driving directions to worksites.

Each employee must have their own login ID. That said, it might not make sense for you to supply each and every field employee with their own mobile device. If you agree, one option would be to have the crew foreman check each of his crewmembers in and out of each job on his mobile device. Another option would be to simply create a login ID for a given crew, with your office staff understanding that employees A, B and C are associated with that crew.
