The National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) hosted its community service project on Oct. 21 at GIE+EXPO 2015, for their fifth year. A group of 75 volunteers and trade show attendees, including NALP contractor members, NALP student members and YouthBuild volunteers headed to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul campus in Louisville, KY. St. Vincent de Paul is a social-service charity that was founded in 1853. The volunteers took to different spots on the campus area constructing hardscapes, pruning trees, trimming shrubs, mulching the playground and constructing landscapes.
Other volunteers also went to Shelby Traditional Academy where they installed raised plant beds. After the raised planters were put in, some of the Shelby students joined volunteers to plant some vegetables. The leading sponsors for the NALP community service project were, GIE + EXPO and John Deere; and the supporting sponsors were Stihl and Syngenta.
“This Louisville project further amplifies NALP’s history of giving back across the country,” said Mike Mason, community service project lead. “This event provides an opportunity for our members to beautify another community, showcase their skills, improve the environment, and solidify partnerships with community organizations. We were so proud to be able to volunteer our resources and skills to further help the city of Louisville.”
