Dixie Chopper is reportedly closing the doors of its Putnam County plant in Indiana. The Banner Graphic in Greencastle reports the company told about 100 workers at the Fillmore facility that manufacturing would move to an out-of-state operation.

The lawn-mower manufacturer has been in the town of Fillmore for nearly 40 years. Jacobsen, a division of Rhode Island-based Textron Inc., acquired Dixie Chopper's assets in February. The publication says the company has not returned calls seeking comment.

According to the Banner Graphic, Dixie Chopper’s Art Evans built the company's first mower in 1980 on his parents' farm east of Fillmore. Since then, every Dixie Chopper has been manufactured in Putnam County.
