Tool Helps Train Spanish-Speaking Irrigation Professionals

The California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) is pleased to announce that its Water Management Certification Program Study Guide is now available in Spanish; Guide helps pros meet the need to reduce landscape water usage.

The California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) is pleased to announce that its Water Management Certification Program Study Guide is now available in Spanish. Even though the test is given in both English and Spanish, after multiple requests from program participants and participating companies, the certification study guide has now been translated into Spanish.

CLCA's Water Management Certification Program was created to help Green Industry professionals meet the need to reduce landscape water usage and is a proud recipient of the WaterSense label. Introduced at CLCA's 30th Annual Landscape Industry Show in February 2009, CLCA's Water Management Certification Program helps Green Industry professionals meet the need to reduce landscape water usage by meeting a water budget. In many cases it also saves money, especially for those with tiered water prices. This program is unique because participants not only take a written test, they are also required to manage at least one property to a water budget for one year to achieve certification and to submit an irrigation system audit. Participants are then required to continue to maintain a property to a water budget to continue their certification.

"I have to say that I'm really impressed with how the program has grown. I also love the new water management website, study guide revisions and upgraded online water management program. I'm also very pleased that the study guide is now available in Spanish," said Bob Wade CLCA president and 30-year industry veteran in Orange County. "Although the drought is now officially over, due to a growing population and an aging water infrastructure, we still need to manage our water carefully. The cities in my area are all going to water budgets based on individual property measurements and they are demanding that the contractor manage the water."

CLCA's Water Management Certification program was a 2010 recipient of a Silicon Valley Water Conservation Award under the education category and has been approved for continuing education units through PLANET and the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System. CLCA's Water Management Certification program offers tests and trainings throughout the state of California and would not be possible without the strong support of Ewing Irrigation Products, Toro Company, Hunter Industries and Horizon Irrigation.
