Climb Trees, Expand Your Horizons, presented by the Women’s Tree Climbing Workshop, is back at GIE+EXPO with an expanded lineup for 2021.

Sponsorships by The Davey Tree Expert Company and ECHO bring attendees the opportunity to learn arborist techniques from certified arborists who will be aloft in a 50-foot tree set up inside the Kentucky Exposition Center.

GIE+EXPO is set for October 20-22, 2021.

Melissa LeVangie and Bear LeVangie, along with their team, will present eight in-tree demonstrations and two new classroom workshops where attendees can earn CEUs. The LeVangies developed the Women’s Tree Climbing Workshop in 2009 with a mission “to create a safe, encouraging, and empowering learning environment for women to climb trees” and have hosted workshops across the country for both women and men.

“Davey, along with the Women’s Tree Climbing Workshop and ECHO, has a unique opportunity to install a green ash tree inside Freedom Hall to bring arboriculture knowledge and skills to GIE+EXPO attendees,” said Herb Landmann, project manager with The Davey Tree Expert Company. “Projects like this are important because we are able to recycle a tree and use it to help educate other tree care professionals.”

The tree will be donated by Louisville’s Cave Hill Cemetery as part of their process of monitoring and caring for their canopy. Each year the cemetery’s team of ISA Certified Arborist and TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification) credential holders identifies trees that have died, are in decline or pose a risk to persons or property. The trees are then removed and, whenever possible, replaced with healthy young trees.

GIE+EXPO is the industry’s family reunion as Kris Kiser refers to it, and we at ECHO can’t agree more,” said Ken Osberg, director of marketing for ECHO. “The tree climbing and workshop program is yet another innovative way the show is engaging attendees in fun and educational activities. ECHO is proud to be the 2021 tree care sponsor as we look to connect with tree care professionals, build new relationships and support the great work these pros do on a daily basis.”

The in-tree demonstrations throughout the day Wednesday-Friday will cover a wide range of topics, including tie-in points, the use of drones, fundamentals of pruning cuts and static vs dynamic rigging. These sessions are included with trade show registration.
