Fisher Barton, a leading producer of lawnmower blades worldwide, has introduced its new line of self-sharpening blades: LaserEdge with EverSharp technology. The unveiling took place at the 2016 GIE+EXPO on October 19 in Louisville, KY.
“Fisher Barton has consistently been focused on bringing innovative solutions to our customers and this is the most significant innovation to lawnmower blades since Fisher Barton’s introduction of Marbain,” said Andy Strupp, vice president of sales & marketing. “LaserEdge EverSharp helps solve many of the issues that heavy users experience including frequent downtime due to blade sharpening and the ill-effects of cutting with dull mower blades.”
Through advanced surface engineering, the hardened steel blade actually sharpens itself while in use. The bottom side of the blade is engineered to be much harder. As it mows, the cutting edge becomes serrated and actually becomes sharper than the original cutting edge. The result is a blade you never have to worry about sharpening, the company assures.
One of these blades will reportedly cost at least twice the typical commercial lawnmower blade. But when you add up the cost of having to sharpen blades every week or two, contractors could come out money ahead in the longer run.
Fisher Barton says it is working with mower manufacturers to secure product placement in dealerships as primarily an aftermarket item. More details to come.
