There's a new lawn care company that's making some noise on the local scene. Which is a bit ironic, because this landscaping crew uses machines that seem to hum more than roar.

"This is the future; it really is," said Katie Felts-Martin, co-owner of Clean Air Lawn Care St. Louis.

The Missouri company is the first landscaping outfit in the state to use solar energy to power all of its mowers, clippers and assorted landscape equipment.

"The solar panel feeds the two marine-grade batteries and we have the controller here to see the power levels," said Craig Martin, who owns and operates the business with his wife. "Then it goes to the converter, the converter changes it to AC power for our charger, and the solar energy goes into our portable batteries for our equipment."
