Milpitas, California’s outside parks maintenance contractor for the last five years will remain on the job at least a few months longer as the city readies a bidding process to possibly replace it.

The Milpitas City Council voted unanimously on June 20 to authorize the city manager to execute a $383,333 bridge contract with Colorado-based Terracare Associates LLC for four months to give the city more time to rebid its parks maintenance agreement.

In April, Milpitas requested bids for city parks maintenance service and received four qualified ones, according to city staff reports. However, all four were priced significantly above the budgeted amount. After the city allowed the four bidders to submit revised prices, officials said it was still not possible to award a contract.

Instead, staffers issued a four-month bridge contract to current provider Terracare.
