Restitution has grown to nearly $100,000 for a second-time embezzler convicted of stealing from the landscape company that gave her a second chance.

Hubers, 52, of Ravenna, Michigan, was convicted in October 2017 of embezzlement of more than $1,000, but less than $20,000, and sentenced in November to 30 days in jail with work release. At the time of her sentencing, Muskegon County Circuit Judge Annette Smedley ordered a restitution hearing to be held because the company incurred Internal Revenue Service (IRS) fines due to Hubers' failure to submit payroll taxes.

That hearing was scheduled, but the prosecution and defense agreed to enter a restitution amount of $99,893 to be paid to Wolf Creek Landscaping from which Hubers embezzled between January 2016 and February 2017. At the time of sentencing, restitution was listed as $33,000.

Hubers worked 10 years for the Ravenna Township landscaping company owned by a friend of hers. She was in charge of payroll and accounts payable, and was the only one who handled cash flow and had access to the company's computer, according to a Muskegon County Sheriff's Office report.
