Ram Truck says it offers a range of trucks that are known for their best-in-class five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, helping to provide years of confident ownership.
The company says the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty is a particular favorite among snow-removal professionals. The backbone of this truck is a hydro-formed, fully boxed frame with advanced torsional rigidity. Suspension upgrades and larger front-axle U-joints, combined with a front gross axle weight rating (GAWR) up to 5,500 pounds, provides outstanding front-weight carrying capability—a must for larger snow plows.
In terms of power, the HDs are available with a 6.7-liter Cummins High Output Turbo Diesel engine, which produces 800 lb.-ft. of torque and features class-leading diesel exhaust brake performance, according to the company. Ram HD trucks are also the only diesel pickups to meet EPA emissions regulations without the need for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), the company points out.
Backing up the available 6.7-liter diesel engine is a choice of a standard, class-exclusive 6-speed manual transmission or an available 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 2012 Ram 2500 comes standard with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 gasoline engine, which delivers 383 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s matched to a new heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission.
Two 4x4 transfer cases are available: a manual unit standard on ST and Power Wagon models, and an electric shift-on-the-fly transfer case that’s standard on all other models.
A number of other Ram-exclusive features are also available, including the RamBox storage system which includes:
- Two weatherproof, lockable, drainable, lighted storage bins
- Cargo rail with adjustable tie-down cleats
- Bed divider/extender that adds 2 feet of additional length to secure longer loads
- Bed divider also creates individual compartments in the bed to separate shovels, blowers, salt bags and spreaders, and can be conveniently stowed when not in use.
