PERC Spotlights Propane Perks for Landscapers

After a year of volatile gas prices, landscapers are looking for stable, affordable fuel pricing. At Equip Exposition 2026, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) is highlighting how propane-powered mowers can bring relief to balance sheets, run longer and carry a lower total cost of ownership than gasoline-powered models.

“While gas prices have increased by close to 50% this year, propane prices have moved by just pennies,” said Michael Newland, PERC’s director of agriculture business development. “Landscapers find other savings when they switch to propane, too. Maintenance is simpler for propane mowers, and since you don’t have to go to the gas station to refuel, downtime is dramatically reduced.”

To help landscapers see firsthand how propane-powered equipment can boost performance while lowering fuel costs, PERC launched its Propane Landscape Demonstration Program earlier this year. Applicants can test a propane-powered mower or utility vehicle for 10 days on their real routes to see how it performs on their local terrain. Fleet managers can learn more about the program and apply at Propane.com/landscape-demo.

“It’s one thing to read about the benefits of propane mowers,” Newland said. “But for many, seeing one in action on the actual properties they service lets them see those benefits firsthand.”

Those looking to learn more about propane-powered equipment can chat with Newland and other members of the PERC team at Booth #7040. On display at the booth will be mowers converted to propane by Onyx, Alliance Small Engines, and Propane Power Systems, as well as a cylinder exchange cage to demonstrate the fueling process.

On October 21, PERC will also sponsor the Wednesday Night Block Party at 4th Street Live featuring The Crashers, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
