Mother Nature Lends a Helping Hand

Few drought conditions help lawn maintenance contractors stay busy in spring 2010.

As of mid-June, 79 percent of the contiguous U.S. was experiencing no signs of drought, compared to 68 percent back in mid-April. The favorable conditions that have persisted through the start of summer have helped keep lawn maintenance contractors and the servicing equipment dealers they buy from extremely busy this season.

In June of last year, 66 percent of the country showed no signs of drought (13 percent less than this year). Furthermore, 21 percent showed moderate to extreme signs of drought, compared to just 11 percent this year.

Areas of the country that are showing signs of drought include northern Louisiana, northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
