The War on Leaf Blowers

Prominent D.C. writer helping encourage city council to ban use of gas-powered leaf blowers.

As reported by the Washington Post, a prominent correspondent for The Atlantic Magazine is helping push efforts in his Washington D.C. neighborhood to ban two-stroke leaf blowers in the city. He’s been writing a series of blog posts on the matter.

The writer has joined with others to lobby city officials to enact a ban. Now, council member Mary Cheh has introduced a bill, the Leaf Blower Regulation Amendment Act of 2016, that would prohibit the sale and use of gas-powered leaf blowers in the city by 2022. The matter is currently under city council review.

Landscape contractors and equipment dealers concerned about a potential leaf blower prohibition should begin paying attention to this matter immediately, engage city officials, and make sure their voices are heard as the city deliberates this matter over the coming weeks and months.
