It’s no secret that a bigger truck can move more snow and haul more salt than a smaller truck can. Larger, heavier-duty snowplows that weigh upwards of 1,000 to 1,200 pounds require a hefty front GAWR (gross axle weight rating). Likewise, higher-production, 2- or 4-cubic-yard-capacity hopper spreaders can weigh well over 500 pounds—even before you've stuffed them full of salt. That's going to require a hefty GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating).
Ram says its 2500 4x4 provides a front GAWR of up to 6,000 pounds to move snow in volumes, but also features plow weight capability of 1,220 pounds. Plus, the Ram 2500 is available with the 6.4-liter HEMI (410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque) to keep the largest blade moving under the heaviest push.
Additionally, Ram offers two packages on both its 2500 and 3500 trucks:
Snow Plow Package ($135) – Includes 180-amp alternator (gas), 220-amp alternator (diesel), transfer case skid plate
Snow Chief Package ($780 on the 2500, $490 on the 3500) – Includes the following:
- Larger alternator
- Skid plate
- Clearance Lamps
- 18-inch On/Off Road Tires
- Auxiliary I/P switches
- Limited Slip Differential (already standard on 3500)
