As the Evans Landscaping fraud trial begins its fourth week, the prosecution is expected to rest its case against the Newtown, Ohio businessman accused of creating a front company to win minority and small business contracts.
The prosecution has called its last witness in the case, former Evans Landscaping CFO John Dietrich. The defense could begin to call witnesses on Tuesday.
Prosecutors have said Doug Evans and others created Ergon, headed up by Korey Jordan, an African-American Evans Landscaping employee, and funded by Evans himself.
Ergon, a small minority-owned demolition and construction company, would bid on contracts open to small and minority businesses but the work would be done by Evans Landscaping personnel using Evans Landscaping resources, prosecutors said.
