Could this be the last round up for Roundup? Protect Our Cape Cod Aquifer (POCCA) has undertaken a campaign to get all 15 Cape municipalities to stop using glyphosate-based herbicides (such as Roundup) on town properties.

Some towns, such as Orleans, have already done so, but POCCA would like policies to be set in writing, especially by the board of health, so they can use that in their battle with the Massachusetts Pesticide Board to limit the use of herbicides on Eversource’s power line right of ways on Cape Cod.

Laura Kelley, the president of POCCA, appeared before the Orleans selectmen and Brewster’s select board this week to make her case.

“The mission is going town to town because, throughout the summer and fall, there were studies and court cases that proved harm to people as well as bees,” Kelley explained.
