Registration Open for 2014 PLANET Day of Service

The sixth annual Day of Service, held on Earth Day (April 22), gives industry volunteers a chance to give back to their communities with a variety of lawn care and landscaping-related projects.

Planet Day Of Service

PLANET has opened registration for the sixth annual PLANET Day of Service, which is once again being held on Earth Day, April 22.

PLANET Day of Service allows companies to organize volunteer lawn care and landscaping-related projects in their own communities. Projects have included the construction of healing gardens, and revitalizing and installing plants at war memorials, youth and senior centers, local parks, and on church and school grounds.

Volunteering and giving back to their local communities is something all good small businesses strive to do. Here in the Green Industry, more than a thousand volunteers have completed more than 900 Day of Service projects around the country over the past four years. PLANET says the estimated value of the time donated exceeds $3.5 million.

PLANET Day of Service is open to all industry professionals. Register a project at www.planetdayofservice.org and receive five free event T-shirts. The website also includes a complete planning guide to help companies select, plan, promote, and execute a successful project. When companies register their project, they are added to the nationwide map, and media and the public can search for and read about projects.

Lead event sponsors are CNA Business Insurance, John Deere, Shindaiwa, and TruGreen. Supporting sponsors are HighGrove Partners, Snapper Pro, Stihl Inc., The Greenwood Group, and Turf Appeal.
