Gravely Launches OVIS-X Remote-Controlled Brush Mower

The remote-controlled mower now offers an improved operator interface, greater convenience, and more control in environments where most mowers can’t cut.

Gravely is taking high-slope brush mowing to the next level with the new OVIS-X. The OVIS-X builds on the unique capability of the OVIS platform with a redesigned controller that improves the operator interface and adds greater control and convenience when tackling steep and otherwise impossible mowing environments.

“The OVIS platform is all about opening landscapers’ access to new markets and service opportunities on steep slopes and in hard-to-reach areas more safely, efficiently, and comfortably,” said Gravely Brand Director Patrick McQuillan. “The OVIS-X builds on those strong benefits by adding blade engagement and cutting height controls to the remote so professionals can be even more productive.”

OVIS and OVIS-X facts:

  • Powered by a 23-horsepower Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine
  • Equipped with a 40-inch-wide flail mower
  • Cuts through dense vegetation and saplings up to 1.5 inches in diameter
  • Scales slopes up to 55 degrees
  • 1,000-foot control range ensures work can be completed from a safe distance
  • No potential for remote “frequency confusion”, enabling the units to work simultaneously with each other in a fleet or with other remote-controlled machines

Additionally, key functions are brought directly to the operator’s fingertips. Users can now adjust cutting height and engage or disengage blade rotation from the remote—functions that previously required direct interaction with the machine itself.

“These enhancements save time and reduce the need to physically interact with the mower during operation,” said McQuillan. “Instead of first walking to the machine, you can now make some of these adjustments in seconds from more than football field away.”

The OVIS-X also includes a simplified transaxle disengagement system, making it easier to tow the machine.

Its ultra-low profile and track-drive system create a low center of gravity that allows the machine to scale slopes up to 55 degrees and clear low obstacles like solar panels. And because it’s operated remotely, there’s no need for an onboard cockpit, keeping operators safely out of harm’s way when working on steep grades or near roadside traffic. Combined, these characteristics make it the ideal machine for challenging terrain such as highway embankments, viaducts, and solar farms.

“The OVIS platform gives landscapers access to jobsites that were previously off-limits,” said AriensCo Chief Revenue Officer Stephen Ariens. “With the OVIS-X, we’re making that work even more efficient and operator friendly.”

Both the OVIS and OVIS-X are sold exclusively through independently owned and operated Gravely dealerships, with the OVIS-X becoming available in the U.S. and Canada in May 2026. Both models are manufactured by AriensCo in Bühlertann, Germany.
