After careful consideration, the Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA) board of directors has voted to postpone the 2020 Snow & Ice Symposium to August 25-28 from it’s originally scheduled dates in mid-June.

SIMA Executive Director Martin Tirado issued a statement about the rescheduling due to the ongoing developments with COVID-19.

“LIke everyone, we want to see the coronavirus and COVID-19 go away quickly with the least amount of impact to our health and to the health of our friends, colleagues and family,” he said. “When this virus passes, we will still want to meet together as a professional industry to prepare for the next challenges and opportunities for success. That place will be the snow and ice Symposium in August 2020.”

Fortunately, the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford and surrounding hotels were able to offer SIMA the needed exhibit space, meeting rooms and hotel rooms for the August dates.

Tirado said most of the speakers scheduled for June are able to be there in late August, with a few exceptions.

“The symposium in August will still provide you with the highest quality of education, resources and networking opportunities needed to help you and your business position itself for success in the 2020-21 winter season,” he said, noting that the hope was to make the transition date as smooth as possible for members and attendees.

Those already registered will automatically be transferred to the new dates. For hotel reservations, Tirado said June reservations will be automatically canceled and attendees will need to make a new hotel reservation for August. The hotel booking page will be available on April 15.

In addition, Tirado noted that for those unable to attend the symposium because of a conflict with the new dates, he suggested exchanging the registration with a co-worker. “This could be a good time to introduce a person from your company to the symposium experience if they have not attended in the past,” he said. “If that is not possible, we will work with you on a refund or to apply the registration fees to other training or certifications. I look forward to seeing you there.”
