Liquid Snow Melt contains bio-propylene glycol (BPG), a vegetable-based liquid containing absolutely no salt or chlorides. The manufacturer says this makes it a truly "green" deicing solution, posing no threat to groundwater supply, vegetation, concrete or truck beds.

Research shows that it's also quite effective at melting snow and ice. Independent tests show that BPG melts snow at a rate 2.7 times faster than salt and brine products, and remains active up to seven days after initial application.

For anti-icing, Liquid Snow Melt should be sprayed prior to a storm, preferably 48 hours or so. A gallon will pre-treat 1,000 square feet. If plowing roads, roughly 30 gallons are needed per lane mile. Liquid Snow Melt can also be applied after a storm. It will take 1.5 to 3 gallons to treat 1,000 square feet, or 45 to 50 gallons per lane mile. The company says it is effective immediately upon application, and the friction of passing traffic will actually increase melting capacity.

Other highlights of Liquid Snow Melt include:

  • Effective in temperatures as low as -30° F
  • Can be applied to any surface including metal and concrete
  • Non-toxic, can be stored virtually anywhere
  • Sold in one-gallon jugs, 250-gallon totes or 4,500-gallon tankers
