Firefighters from multiple cities in the Metro East of St. Louis have been battling more than a day to put out a mulch fire in Sauget, Illinois.

A massive pile of mulch at the Oldcastle Lawn and Garden on Queeny Avenue caught fire Monday morning or early afternoon, and continued to burn during the evening. It was still burning early Tuesday.

A firefighter with the Prairie DuPont Volunteer Fire and Rescue said his crew was among those called out to help.

He said firefighters were being cycled out from different departments every so often after fighting the blazes for hours.
