In late 2015, JCB launched myChoice controls, a controls operation software that gives operators the ability to adjust their skid steer travel and loader controls for optimal operation during finer, more precise work to faster, high-duty cycle operation.

George Chaney, SSL & CTL sales manager at JCB, says that landscape contractors have really welcomed the myChoice controls for a variety of reasons. “The primary reason is that it allows them to customize their machines for the finer, more precise work they need to do near landscape beds, fine grading jobs, etc.,” Chaney explains. “Then, they can adjust the controls for heavy lifting work like carrying materials around the jobsite using a bucket (gravel, mulch) or pallet forks (sod).”

Another buying trend Chaney is seeing is landscapers going for larger, vertical-lift, high-spec units. These would include options such as JCB’s SRS (Smooth Ride System) which keeps materials in the bucket rather than bouncing out, and a power quick-hitch that allows them to change attachments without leaving the skid steer’s cab.

More on myChoice. JCB skid steers and compact track loaders have always featured three control modes. With myChoice, six control modes are available on all new JCB machines: three modes for the transmission and three for the loader functions. Machine operation remains exactly the same, with users engaging modes within the new software just as they did with the prior software.

Dealers help facilitate software updates. Similar to mobile phone or computer software suppliers that periodically update their operating software, JCB will inform JCB dealers when myChoice updates are available. Dealers will then install the software updates during a customer’s next preventive service appointment.
